 Internet Access
Dingbat Technology is an agent for Westnet. We believe them to offer the best value for money and support in Australia, and therefore Westnet is the only ISP we currently work with. We have many happy Westnet customers, and we use them for our own Internet connections. So when we say we love Westnet, you can rest assured that we really do believe they are the best all-round ISP in the country.

Here's a few of the reasons we went with Westnet:

  • Competitive pricing - lower than the big ISPs (except for some bundled phone deals)
  • Free static IP address with most connections - great for hosting servers
  • Westnet Support use knowledgeable technical staff, rather than call centre drones
  • ADSL and SHDSL products are available depending on the speed you need
  • A full range of hosting services is available

If you don't believe us, read about how Westnet has again been voted Australia's favourite ISP for customer service.

Which type of Internet to choose?
ADSL is a very cost effective way to get your business on the Internet. Most providers have a basic ADSL packages at around $30 a month, some even cheaper. However, these packages offer only the slowest speed, with little download allowance, and with many ISPs support is limited. For home office connections, we suggest at least a 512k/128k with a few gigabytes of monthly transfer. For a business connection being shared between employees, we suggest a 1.5mb/256k connection. For more information, see Westnet's ADSL page.

If your business relies on the Internet, or you need faster access, we suggest an SHDSL connection. These offer symmetrical bandwidth (uploads are as fast as downloads), and Service Level Agreements to ensure maximum uptime. Again, Dingbat Technology recommends Westnet for these connections, with prices starting from $300 per month. See Westnet's SHDSL page for more information.

 Security
The number of security threats on the Internet has skyrocketed in recent years. No matter how you connect (even by dial-up), you MUST protect your computer from the Internet. For starters, you need a firewall. Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes a reasonable software firewall, but we prefer the combination of a hardware based unit, plus a software firewall for mobile machines.

For business networks, we recommend the combination of a hardware firewall, and Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration server, which comes with the Premium edition of Small Business Server 2003 (see our SBS page).

In addition, you also need anti-virus software, and a current subscription. Dingbat Technology works with Symantec, Trend Micro and McAfee.

See our Products page for more information on the products we sell.
